Application: The DC3 and DC4 are improved versions of the DC1. The tension of the steel wire rope is now applied radially, making the pressure exerted on the tree independent of the stem diameter. This allows measurement results from trees of different diameters to be compared directly. The sensor is attached to the tree using a steel wire rope made of an alloy with a low coefficient of thermal expansion. Small plastic rings reduce the pressure on the tree and minimize frictional resistance, greatly enhancing sensitivity.
The difference between DC3 and DC4 is that the DC4 has a larger measurement range. If the tree trunk is relatively thick or grows quickly, DC4 is more suitable.
Features:
- Suitable for tree diameters > 5 cm
- Wire rope pressure on the tree is independent of stem diameter, allowing direct comparison across different tree sizes
- Wire rope tension automatically adjusts to stem diameter for sensitive response
- No damage to the plant
- Resistant to wind, snow, falling branches and small fruits, ensuring stable measurement
- Easy to install
- Simplified readjustment using a turnbuckle
- Data must be converted to obtain circumference change (free Excel program available)
- Measured trunk should be as close to circular as possible
- Low power consumption – e.g., with a DL10 data logger, one built-in battery can record continuously for over two years
- 15 years of successful use in diverse global regions (polar, tropical, alpine, desert)
- Resolution up to 0.03 µm (depending on data logger resolution)
- Probe temperature compensation
- Compatible with common data loggers, such as Delta-T Logger, Campbell Logger, DataTaker Logger
